akimbo: Either you're with us or you're with the Palinists.

It’s that implication that makes me uncomfortable.

The idiots of “drill baby drill” aren’t the only ones to blame for offshore drilling and its related mishaps. Obama supports offshore drilling. Sure, his support is more measured than that of its supporters in the other camp. But if you’re…

i’m assuming this is meant for me as you linked to my page. normally i don’t get involved in back and forth on tumblr (because who cares besides us?) but what i know of you online i like too much to let you think i am an “us or them” person.

you are absolutely right, this new crop of drill baby drill people are not the only ones to blame. our dependency on fossil fuels should have been resolved by the 90’s. both, democrats and republicans, have failed us with this. but look at today’s republican party. a party where the moderate right has to appease a racist, homophobic, gun toting, fact fearing fringe* to maintain a base vote. at least i hope it’s appeasement and these elected officials don’t actually believe the crazy things they say. but then they do have rush limbaugh as their leader. yes, that’s snotty but it’s the truth.

as for obama you can see my immediate thoughts on his decision to expand offshore drilling here. however, after i thought about it, what if this was just a ploy to play on the political positions of republicans to get a climate bill? the good thing about obama is he does get and weigh all the facts. what if he opened the coasts up to exploration knowing it would be years before oil companies could find and produce oil? and that the amounts available would not be worth the cost of drilling? AND that by then there would be viable clean energy sources? i really hope that’s what he was doing, but it’s not like i haven’t been disappointed with things like: public option, gay marriage, dadt, bank reform, war policy, etc.

like you kim, i’m not ready to give up on obama. i know things take time, there’s a lot to fix, and he is far from the progressive i would like making policy, but it just seems there’s always another disappointment, another flip-flop, another give-away to corporate america.

i got off track…

bill being left’s rush- i see what you guys are saying, i just don’t see the problem with it. rush rallies his troops with hate, false information, and fear. bill puts a comedic twist on facts. we can’t forget bill, unlike rush, is a comedian.

i went to a self-defense class for women once and the instructor told us to tell the attacker anything that could help stop the attack. be it that you’re pregnant, have aids, anything. i guess what i am trying to say with that is- i am all for sensationalism when its outcome would be for the greater good.

*republicans are calling these people a fringe of the party, but we all know with more and more of the moderate right declaring independent they are now the core of the republican party.
